During any athlete’s career, he or she is likely to go through a period or periods of time where they are not playing at their optimal level. This often happens because of injuries, poor and disappointing performances, pressure from coaches, or other such things where there is a fear of failure. The college recruitment period is also a time in which particularly high pressure can affect performance. During this time, it is not uncommon for athletes to feel nervous or anxious. As a former athlete myself, I understand the high pressure athletes experience during recruitment and the college decision-making process. Athletes can be taught breathing exercises, visualization, and other relaxation techniques to enhance performance. Additionally, EMDR can be used to move through blocks in performance stemming from injuries or other sports-related traumas.
