People of Color
Due to the racial inequalities and disparities in the United States, people of color experience the world differently. People of color must walk through a world where structural racism makes it difficult for them to find supportive environments and equal opportunities that allow them to thrive and provide for themselves and their families. Individuals of color experience trauma at higher rates and tend to develop negative coping patterns to cope with traumatic events. At Safe Haven, we work towards understanding how the marginalization of individuals of color complicates healing. We strive to create a safe and supportive environment in which individuals of color can understand and process trauma created by racism.
