Trauma Recovery Group
This group is for individuals looking to heal from relational trauma in a group environment. Examples of relational trauma include childhood abuse or neglect, intimate partner violence, emotional/psychological abuse, and spiritual or religious trauma. The group explores topics relevant to healing from relational trauma such as family of origin roles, boundaries, and developing safety in relationships. The group also provides space for group members to process their trauma in a supportive environment by sharing their stories, identifying trauma-related beliefs and emotions, and developing self-compassion.
Because this group involves deeply exploring one’s own and others’ traumatic experiences, safety is a top priority. There is a thorough screening process to ensure that all group members have the capacity and recovery skills necessary to engage in this work safely. This group is appropriate for members who:
Can identify when they are dysregulated (overwhelmed, panicked, dissociative, etc.) and use healthy coping skills to self-regulate both during and after group. Are able to refrain from abusing substances, engaging in self-harm, or using other unsafe coping strategies to manage distress. Have at least 1-2 supportive people in their life outside the group. Have the ability to trust others to some degree and the capacity to share vulnerably in a group setting with direction and support from the group leaders.
